Training seminar on “the role of competition law and intellectual property law in promoting innovation”

As a result of the practical outcomes of the Committee’s leadership visit to Germany, on October 23, 2024, a specialized training seminar was held for the Committee’s employees. The seminar took place at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, one of the world’s leading “think tanks” located in Munich, Germany, and was led by Dr. Daria Kim, Senior Researcher at the Institute. The seminar covered topics related to competition policy, intellectual property, digital platforms, and artificial intelligence. The main focus of the seminar was on the interaction between competition law and intellectual property law in promoting innovation, with particular attention to the situation in developing countries. Additionally, the role of digital platforms and artificial intelligence technologies in regulating competition was discussed. During the training, participants explored key topics such as the legal factors of innovation, the role of intellectual property protection in development, the application of competition law in developing countries, the balance between competition law and intellectual property law, the regulation of digital platforms, and the impact of artificial intelligence on competition. The primary goal of the training was to enhance the qualifications of the Committee’s specialists and strengthen their knowledge of how to stimulate innovation through the protection of competition and intellectual property. Furthermore, the aim was to study and implement the best international practices in areas such as digital transformation and the regulation of artificial intelligence technologies. The Committee plans to continue its cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, including organizing training seminars, implementingjoint research projects with the Committee’s Research Center, and conducting expert reviews of draft legislation developed by the Committee to ensure compliance with international standards and practices.

On October 18 of this year, a meeting was held between the Center for Research on Competition Policy and Consumer Rights under the Competition Committee and the Representative Office of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Uzbekistan

The meeting was attended by Deputy Director of the Center G. Kholjigitov, as well as a consultant on project development within the framework of JICA programs Abe Naomi and leading project coordinator Sharipov Sharifzoda. The main goal of this meeting was to further strengthen relations between the Center and JICA and identify new areas of cooperation. At the end of the conversation, the parties agreed to implement projects aimed at knowledge sharing, strengthening the institutional capacity of employees, as well as cooperation with Japanese and local experts.
