China's antitrust regulator tighten control in 2025
China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has announced that it will tighten control of international affairs and cross-border acquisitions in the semiconductor sector in 2025.
In December, 2024 SAMR also announced an investigation into Nvidia chipmaker company for allegedly violating China's antitrust laws and failing to honor commitments made when it bought Israeli switch and network adapter maker Mellanox Technologies for USD 6.9 billion. Beijing approved the deal on the condition that Nvidia not discriminate against Chinese companies.
SAMR also added that on 2025 it plans to tighten measures to combat irrational competition in the solar energy sector, as well as in electric vehicles and lithium batteries.
