The International Conference on “Competition Policy Measures as a Driver for Sustainable Economic Growth in Times of Global Uncertainty” has officially commenced
An international conference titled “Competition Policy Measures as a Driver for Sustainable Economic Growth in Times of Global Uncertainty”, jointly organized by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and The Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee, is currently underway.
The conference brings together representatives of competition authorities from Germany, Türkiye, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, as well as leaders, officials, and distinguished experts from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Agency for Strategic Reforms under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Center for Progressive Reforms, the Uzbek Republican Commodity Exchange (UZEX), the International Monetary Fund, and a number of other international and national organizations.
The conference was officially opened with welcome remarks by:
- E.Gadoyev, Chairman of the Committee on Budget and Economic Issues of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan,
- Kh.Turakhujaev, Chairman of the Competition Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan,
- L.Grauberger, Head of the Consumer Protection and Competition Division at German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation.
In their addresses, they emphasized the growing importance of competition policy in today’s economic environment, highlighting its role in enhancing market efficiency and safeguarding consumer interests.
During the conference, participants are discussing how competition policy can strengthen market resilience amid global uncertainty, including inflationary pressures, supply chain disruptions, digital transformation, and geopolitical fragmentation. Particular attention is being given to the role of competition policy in fostering efficiency and innovation, protecting consumers, and contributing to sustainable economic growth.
