As part of new approaches to improving the well-being of the population in Syrdarya Region, the Competition Policy and Consumer Rights Research Center analyzed household living expenses.

According to the preliminary analysis, 51 percent of the region’s total household expenditure is allocated to food products, 19 percent to non-food products, 13 percent to services, and 7 percent to eating out.

In developed countries, the share of expenditure on food is generally less than 15 percent.

International practice involves regular monitoring of the prices of goods and services that account for a significant share of the expenditures of low-income households. In particular, in South Africa, the “Cost of Living” analysis monitors expenditures on food, housing and utilities, transport, healthcare, and other essential expenses.

This approach makes it possible to identify the goods and services that have the greatest impact on household living expenses, as well as their price dynamics and the factors influencing price formation, thereby creating an opportunity to take appropriate measures in a timely manner.
