Dear compatriots!
The Competition Policy and Consumer Rights Research Center under the Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan organized a special training course on “Antimonopoly Compliance.”
The Competition Policy and Consumer Rights Research Center under the Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan continues its consistent efforts to increase the share of domestic products in local markets and to conduct in-depth research on the state of competition.
From October 13 to 27, within the framework of the “Belt and Road Initiative,” an international seminar dedicated to competition legislation and its enforcement practices was held in Beijing and Shenzhen, People’s Republic of China.
More than 100 market analyses conducted, over 20 international partnerships established – the newly established Competition Policy and Consumer Rights Research Center of Uzbekistan is contributing to the development of a sound competition policy in the country. Established under the Presidential Decree No. 108 and the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers dated July 21, 2023, the Competition Policy and Consumer Rights Research Center under the Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee of Uzbekistan continues to actively expand its activities. Today, the Center conducts comprehensive research in the field of competition policy and consumer protection in our country using advanced international practices and modern econometric models. These approaches ensure that the analyses are scientifically grounded and effective. The Center’s work is not limited to the collection of digital data. It aims to support the adoption of strategic decisions focused on enhancing economic potential, reducing import dependency, and strengthening local manufacturers. The results of the analyses show that certain product markets in the country are not sufficiently saturated with domestically produced goods. These findings are regularly published, increasing consumer awareness while creating new market opportunities for producers. To date, the Center has assessed the market saturation level for more than 100 product categories. This information serves as a reliable reference for manufacturers, investors, and entrepreneurs. In addition, the Center has established cooperation and signed Memorandums of Understanding with more than 20 local and international organizations. These partnerships play a key role in ensuring that the research meets international standards and maintains high quality.
In his presentation, he highlighted the rapid growth of the digital economy, the 40 percent annual growth rate of the e-commerce market, and the emerging priorities of competition policy. It was emphasized that international regulatory practices related to digital platforms (Digital Markets Act, FTC, CMA, JFTC, and others) serve as an important reference for Uzbekistan. For the first time, the new Law “On Competition” and the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 256 have legally defined the dominant position of digital platforms and price algorithms. Additionally, the Digital Task Force established under the Committee is analyzing trends in digital markets and potential cases of abuse. In conclusion, the importance of sustainable digital economic development, ensuring a healthy competitive environment, and strengthening cooperation between the state and businesses was underlined. #GreenEconomy #DigitalTradePlatforms
The Competition Policy and Consumer Rights Research Center under the Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee of Uzbekistan operates as a strategic think tank dedicated to analyzing the competitive environment and scientifically supporting public policy in Uzbekistan. Over the first nine months of this year: ⏺ Nearly 300 product markets were analyzed. ⏺ In the chemical industry, 541 types of products were studied, and import dependency was identified for 281 of them. ⏺ The market saturation level of more than 300 markets with domestically produced products was assessed, and promising directions were recommended for investors. Scientific analyses are carried out using the ARIMA model, enabling short-term price forecasts for socially significant goods such as rice, milk, potatoes, carrots, and poultry and beef meat. This helps anticipate inflationary risks in advance. Entrepreneurs are now able to submit special requests to obtain analysis results on a specific sector or product of their interest. To date, more than 100 such requests have been received and analytical work is currently underway. Human capital is growing: Since the beginning of the year, more than 100 employees within the Committee’s system have participated in capacity-building and international training programs. Training has been organized in cooperation with BRICS, UNCTAD, UNDP, JICA, and the World Bank, while joint research is being carried out with local universities and think tanks under international cooperation initiatives. By enhancing scientific analysis, digital economic forecasting, and talent development, the Center continues contributing to the creation of a fair and competitive market environment in the country.
