Practical cooperation activities are consistently continuing within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Competition Policy and Consumer Rights Research Center under the Competition Committee and Tashkent State University of Law. Within the framework of this memorandum, a roundtable discussion for students of Tashkent State University of Law was organized today at the Competition Committee. During the event, responsible officials of the Committee provided detailed information about the reforms being implemented in our country aimed at developing a competitive environment and protecting consumer rights. During the roundtable, participants received explanations on: the key provisions of the Law “On Competition”;the requirements of the Law “On Advertising”;mechanisms for ensuring fair competition in goods and services markets;the practice of antimonopoly regulation. In addition, master’s students were introduced to practical case studies in this field, held an open dialogue with experts on the application of competition law, and received answers to their questions. Apple and Google placed under regulatory oversight in the United Kingdom

Starting from April 1, 2026, new strict requirements for major technology companies came into force in the United Kingdom under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act (DMCCA). This marks a significant turning point not only for the UK but also for the global IT ecosystem. What has changed? The CMA designated Apple and Google as holding “Strategic Market Status” (SMS). This means they can no longer set their own rules independently and must comply with CMA requirements. Key changes and obligations:App Store transparency: Apple and Google are required to make their app review and ranking processes more transparent. Developers will now better understand why their apps were rejected or ranked lower in search results. Interoperability: Apple will provide third-party developers with broader access to iOS features (such as NFC or digital wallets). This opens new opportunities for fintech and innovative services. Data protection: Platforms are prohibited from using data obtained from developers to build competing products. User choice: Users will have greater freedom in selecting search engines and browsers, limiting Google Search dominance. Why is this important? The UK government aims to support small and medium-sized tech businesses. In case of violations, companies may face fines of up to 10% of their global turnover. Conclusion: Apple and Google will now have to be much more cautious in maintaining “closed ecosystem” policies. This means more choice and more affordable services for users.
