Signing of the memorandum of cooperation between the Competition Policy and Consumer Rights Research Center and Tashkent State University of Law

As part of the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PF -5987 , which is aimed at improving legal education and introducing best practices into the country's legal system, on January 22, 2025, a memorandum of mutual cooperation was signed between the Competition Policy and Consumer Rights Research Center under Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Tashkent State University of Law. The document was signed by: On behalf of the Competition Policy and Consumer Rights Research Center – Director of the Center, Olimjon Sadulloyevich Jumaev. On behalf of Tashkent State University of Law – Rector Rustambek Islombekovich. The purpose of signing the memorandum is to develop cooperation in the field of competition policy research, consumer protection and improvement of educational processes in the field of jurisprudence. The parties agreed to jointly implement initiatives aimed at improving the legal framework, increasing the level of consumer protection and developing competition in Uzbekistan. The signing of the memorandum opens up new opportunities for the exchange of experience between academic circles and government agencies , which, in turn, will help strengthen consumer protection, create a healthy competitive environment and improve the level of legal education in the republic.

Humo's payment system will be privatized.

“National Interbank Processing Center” JSC will be privatized by “Paynet” JSC. The amount of the transaction, according to the results of the bidding, amounted to $65 million, and the consultant for privatization was the international company “Deloitte”. At the same time JSC “Paynet” undertook obligations to implement measures aimed at maintaining and ensuring stable and uninterrupted operation of the payment system “Humo”, as well as the protection of confidential information of system users. The results of privatization were approved by the decision of the State Commission for Privatization and Coordination of Privatization of State Assets.

The Central Bank has introduced a limit on the number of bank cards

The Central Bank has introduced a limit on the number of bank cards issued to one person. Reported, that temporary rules to be in effect from January 1 to December 31, 2025. Earlier, the regulator announced the establishment of a limit of 20 cards per person, including virtual and co-branded cards. At the same time, no more than 5 bank cards can be opened in one bank. It is supposed, that restrictions will optimize banks' work in issuing cards and strengthen control over their use. After completing the development of the initiatives, the Central Bank plans to submit it for discussion with the public and the media.

JSC Uzbekistan Railways increases ticket prices for regular (sleeper) passenger trains

JSC Uzbekistan Railways announced an increase in the price of regular (sleeper) passenger trains by 10.5% of the tariff part of the ticket price from February 1, 2025. The increase is explained in the announcement of the joint-stock company as the need to partially cover the costs of passenger transportation by rail, infrastructure, electricity, fuel, and transportation costs, as well as the renewal of the fleet of passenger cars, improve the operation of railway stations in accordance with new modern requirements, and ensure high-quality service for passengers.
